The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) and industry partners have flown to Berlin, Germany to take part in this year’s ITB Berlin 2023.

This year, the convention’s motto is “Mastering Transformation”, and the event is regarded as one of the largest travel-trade fairs in the world.

The Maldivian contingent reportedly consists of 233 travel trade professionals and representatives of various travel industry businesses. The contingent will be in Berlin from 07th to 09th March to partake in the three-day event, and marks the first time Maldives is participating in the fair since 2019.

MMPRC expects high-profile visits including notable international travel-trade businesses, hotelier brands, and other prominent tourism industry stakeholders from around the world. The tourism board of the Maldives also expects to enhance its networking, seek potential investors, and partnerships.

The tourism board will also provide the latest updates of the destination, safety and security policies, and other information to tourism industry professionals and stakeholders attending the fair.

MMPRC’s tourism promotion brand ‘Visit Maldives’ hosted a live conference on the first day of the fair, with a panel that included the Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom and MMPRC Managing Director Thoyyib Mohamed.

Germany is one of the main tourist source markets to the Maldives, with a total of 133,424 annual arrivals from the market last year; which is 8% of the total tourist arrivals in 2022. Meanwhile, as of 01st March 2023 the cumulative arrivals from Germany stand at 23,257.
