The Maldives Ministry of Tourism reports that the island nation will be welcoming its one millionth tourist arrival on Sunday, July 16.

According to the ministry, the Maldives is expected to welcome the country’s millionth tourist arrival for the year sometime during Sunday early noon.

As is the custom for the Maldives government and the premier tourist board, Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) to celebrate such significant arrival milestones, the arrival of the one millionth tourist to the Maldives this year is expected to be celebrated in similar fashion.

The Ministry of Tourism reported that the ministry along with MMPRC, Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) and Maldives Immigration have arranged for a special welcoming ceremony for the millionth arrival.

The Maldives has a custom of celebrating the first tourist arrival as well as key arrival numbers each year.

Meanwhile, the Maldives government had earlier announced an annual arrival target of 1.8 million tourists for 2023.

In 2022, the annual arrival total stood at 1.6 million while in 2021 this total stood at 1.3 million.
