Preparations are underway for the reclamation of Hulhumale’ 2 lagoon which will be the venue for the state to issue lands under the “Binveriya” scheme.

Urbanco on Thursday, instructed the vessels berthed in the lagoon in Hulhumale’ 2 to vacate.

Physical works of the reclamation project will reportedly commence in September, the large portion of the reclaimed area will be allocated to issue lands under the scheme.

The area was however, planned for a marina development previously by the preceding government.

Reports also claim 700 plots will be issued from the reclaimed area while draws for plot allocation have been ongoing since Tuesday.

Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure published the permanent list of 5,000 recipients of the scheme on Sunday. The tentative list had 19,585 eligible applicants, which went slightly up to 19,865 in the permanent list.

The ministry said 18,955 applicants will receive plots from existing lands with the remaining 684 applicants set to receive plots from the land that will be added later. The remaining applicants are those under 25 years, unmarried or childless.
