Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) has spent nearly MVR 1 billion for its outsourced departments.

IGMH said that it outsourced only two of its departments to foreign hospitals. The hospital outsourced its National Cardiac Center and National Urorenal and Fertility Center to two Indian hospitals.

IGMH signed the agreement with Meditrina Hospital on November 15, 2015 to manage the National Cardiac Center for a period of 10 years. The Indian hospital is also responsible with managing clinical services and providing training experiences for local doctors.

From the date of the agreement until July 2023, IGMH has spent USD 28.7 million (MVR 442 million) to Meditrina. An additional MVR 355,647 was spent on salaries of Meditrina’s doctors stationed in the cardiac center for this period.

IGMH contracted India’s NU Hospital to manage the Urorenal and Fertility Center for a period of 15 years. The agreement was signed on May 2, 2016.

Since the date of signing until July 2023, IGMH has spent USD 33.7 million (MVR 521 million) to NU Hospital, with an additional MVR 3.8 million to the doctors managing the center.

Maldives government paid a total of MVR 963,997,830 to the Indian hospitals to manage its outsourced departments, while the total inclusive of salaries reached MVR 968 million.
