    China takes second spot among top 10 tourist markets in 2023

    China becomes the second strongest tourism market to Maldives

    China has become the second strongest tourism market to the Maldives as of October 11, 2023.

    According to the Ministry of Tourism, the arrivals from China in annual terms as of the review date reached 154,927 while replacing the previous second ranker, India.

    10. Switzerland: 27,154

    As of the review date, the Maldives has attracted an annual total of 1,412,062 tourists which is close to 500,000 shy of reaching the annual arrival target of 1.9 million set by the Maldives government. The country is required to attract over 200,000 in the remaining two months to achieve this target.

    While tourist arrivals in the first nine months saw improvement compared to the corresponding months in 2022, except for May where a 3.6% decline was observed, the annual arrival growth is currently at 13.7%.

    Additionally, tourist arrivals in October so far is 0.1% lower than the arrivals in the same period in 2022.
