The Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO) has engaged in a productive meeting with the Indian High Commissioner to the Maldives, Munu Mahawar to explore collaborative efforts in tourism promotion.

At the meeting held at the Indian High Commission in the Maldives, MATATO seniors and Mr. Mahawar discussed on the mutual interests in enhancing travel and tourism between India and the Maldives.

MATATO said it intends to collaborate with the Indian High Commission closely to “bolster tourism initiatives”. The association also noted that plans are underway to launch a comprehensive roadshow in key cities in India, and facilitate influencer and media familiarization trips to the Maldives.

The association has been instrumental in nurturing the Indian market, surpassing traditional promotion efforts, especially from 2014 to 2018; most notably the participation in prominent trade fairs such as the OTM, SATTE, BITB, and IITM.

Moreover in 2018, MATATO organized the “Maldivian Night” in Mumbai, attracting over 200 travel professionals.

The recent meeting with the Indian High Commissioner signifies MATATO’s “continued dedication to fostering robust tourism ties” between the two countries.
