The Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Environment Ms. Aminath Shauna has claimed the government expenditure on oil purchases will be greatly reduced before the end of current presidential term. According to the minister, by the time President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s first presidential term concludes, the government will have managed to save over MVR225 million in oil purchases to the country. The latest update from the Ministry of Tourism confirmed that the total number of tourist arrivals reached 394,200 as of 23rd March 2022. Furthermore, the tourist arrivals to the Maldives in annual terms observed an increment of 47.8% when compared with the corresponding period in 2021; during which the annual total of tourist arrivals reached 266,754. Aeroflot proposes to the Maldives government to open discussions to recommence the airline’s operations to the island nation. Earlier, the Russian flagship carrier had interrupted its international operations except for Belarus amid the ongoing Russian invasion in Ukraine. The Ministry of Finance on Wednesday urged all employers; public and private sectors, to disburse the Ramadan allowance to workers by Monday, 28th March 2022, the following week. In a circular released by the ministry, it had advised all local employers to disburse a sum of MVR3,000 as Ramadan allowance to each Muslim employee; local or expat. Furthermore, workers officially employed in more than one entity should receive Ramadan allowance from their primary workplace, the ministry’s circular instructed. The latest travel figure updates from the Ministry of Tourism indicated that the total number of tourist arrivals as of 16th March 2022 reached 359,272 in annual terms.
