Canareef Resort Maldives has announced the installation of 720 solar panels in the resort, to reduce its carbon footprint. The project is aligned with the core value of Canareef towards environmental stewardship and responsible tourism practices. The project will be completed within one month, and will change the resort’s energy landscape. Reportedly, the solar panels will generate 400 kilowatts of power. The power generated via the panels will be distributed to both staff and guest areas of the resort. Maldives’ fish is an expensive commodity in the world in terms of quality and sustainable fishing practices, said the General Manager of Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) Muaz Ali. While speaking to a program aired by PSM News, Muaz said that MIFCO is seeking potential international avenues where Maldivian fish products can be sold at premium prices. State Electric Company (STELCO) has announced expanding the infrastructure of Kaafu atoll Gulhi powerhouse. Besides an extension of the powerhouse premises, STELCO reports it has installed an additional power generator to cater to the rise in demand and consumption of electricity; especially during Ramadan. With the generator commissioned and installed, the power output capacity of Gulhi has increased from 1,008 kilowatts to 1,184 kilowatts. Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB) has issued a directive on disbursing Ramadan allowances to employees on Sunday, March 03, 2024. According to the PCB, as per the amendment to Article 4 of the Act No: 2/2008 (Employment Act), all Muslim employees are subject to a Ramadan allowance of MVR 3,000.
