The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched a probe into the case of missing money from Maldive Gas. The money in question had been an advance payment made out to a gas shipment, ACC noted. The issue came to light after Parliament’s Deputy Speaker and Dhiggaru MP Ahmed Nazim made comments about the matter during a Public Accounts Committee meeting recently, where he noted the missing money had been an advance payment made out to a liquified petroleum gas (LPG) shipment in October last year. Dhiraagu on Wednesday held the convocation of its most recent Apprenticeship Program, from which a total of 19 apprentices graduated. The convocation was graced by Minister of Education Dr. Ismail Shafeeu as the chief guest, who awarded the certificate of completion to the graduating apprentices. Ooredoo Maldives has announced to offer 19 Umrah trips and a Hajj trip for two as gifts for customers to commemorate its 12th anniversary. The Maldives government on Tuesday, has awarded the design and build of Addu Link Road project to Road Development Corporation (RDC). Besides the design and build of the link road, RDC has been tasked with establishing drainage systems on the structure. According to Nazim, the Maldives government has spent MVR 2.96 billion on pensions over the past 13 years. The Bank of Maldives (BML) on Tuesday acknowledged an issue with the bank’s systems that saw money deducted from some personal accounts twice. The issue has now been resolved according to BML. Several BML customers had taken to social media to complain regarding the issue, with some alleging potential foul play. According to the Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, Dr. Abdulla Muththalib, the Maldives government may be looking ahead at paying compensation to Indian developer, Renaatus. The minister had noted that the development aspects of Gan International Airport has faced significant delays, most notably due to the delays in vacating a particular building and its plot at Gan. The Ministry of Education on Monday has contracted three local companies for the completion of unfinished school development projects in 18 islands. The ministry has contracted Road Development Corporation (RDC), Fenaka Corporation and the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) for these projects at a combined project total of MVR 114.9 million.
