State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has procured and brought two 1.6-megawatt high-speed power generator containers. STELCO via X on Saturday, January 13, 2024 confirmed the arrival of the two generator-containers. The utility provider also assured provision of two more generator-containers ahead of the peak season, to provide a collective total of 6.4-megawatt of power generation capacity. STELCO said it aimed to provide uninterrupted electricity to the people in Greater Male’ region through this provision.

The Maldives has welcomed the first cruise liner arrival to the island nation in 2024, carrying a substantial number of travelers. The Costa Serena, originating from Cochin, India, berthed in the Maldives on January 8, 2024. The Italian cruise liner reportedly accommodated over 2,000 travelers and previously made stops in Mumbai and Goa before reaching the Maldives. The liner is berthed outside of Male’ City. The Maldives government has resumed allocation of land plots for recipients under the Binveriya Scheme launched during the previous administration. Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih led government began handing over the land plot registries in August 2023 and allocated some of the plots for recipients before the transfer of government. Maldives Customs Service (MCS) has bid farewell to its Deputy Chief Superintendent Hassan Fakhree. Fakhree, now retired, served at the MCS for more than 41 years and is a recipient of the Presidential Ribbon. He was also conferred the National Award for Public Service in 2021.
