The Maldives government announced that a new mental health unit will be enacted in Addu Equatorial Hospital under a grant from Indian government.
The project falls under a grant of MVR27 million provided by Mumbai towards the expansion of several health care units and medical institutions in the Maldives.
The state confirmed that the development projects will be directed to a total of seven different islands, which was announced during the most recent by Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar to the Maldives.
Moreover, it was confirmed that the projects will be focused on the atolls of;
- Haa Dhaal
- Noonu
- Kaafu
- Alif Dhaal
- Gaaf Alif
- Addu (Seenu)
Under the grant developmental projects will focused on areas of medicine, youth empowerment and growth, and preservation of heritage and culture.
Some of the projects the Maldives government has planned under the grant aid include;
- New audiology department in Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital – Kulhudhuffushi City
- Site museums at ‘Maabudhuge’ in Noonu atoll Landhoo and the Dhiyamigili Palace in Thaa Atoll Dhiyamigili
- Multi-sports complex in Noonu atoll Manadhoo
- Prosthetics and orthotics facilities in Hulhumale’ Hospital
Additionally two youth centers will be developed in both Alif Dhaal atoll Dhiggaru and Gaaf Alif atoll Gemanafushi under the grant.
