    Tourist arrivals to Maldives exceed 620k

    Tourist arrivals to Maldives exceed 620k as of 11th May

    According to the latest updates from Ministry of Tourism, the total number of tourists arriving in Maldives was recorded at 628,709 as of 11th May 2022.

    Moreover, this annual arrival total indicates a 47.1% improvement in tourist arrivals compared to the corresponding period in 2021 during which it had reached just 481,579. However, the arrivals observed in 2019 for the same period stood at 687,491 indicating that tourist arrivals in 2022 was still 8.6% below pre-pandemic levels.

    The tourist arrivals stood at 51,919 for the period of 01st to 11th May which indicated an 80.2% improvement compared to the same period in 2021 during which arrivals stood at just 28,809.

    Furthermore, arrivals in 2019 for the aforementioned period stood at 41,399, indicating a 25.4% improvement in 2022.

    Meanwhile, United Kingdom continues to dominate the source market list with an annual arrival total of 80,102 which is 12.7% of the total tourist arrivals in Maldives. India is ranked second with an annual arrival total of 79,562 which also is a 12.7% of the total tourist arrivals in the island nation.

    Russia is currently ranked third with 60,533 annual arrivals, with a share of 9.6% and Germany is ranked fourth with 54,006 annual arrivals so far while Italy is ranked fifth with 42,793 arrivals so far.
