The governor of Leningrad Region posted a video on social media on Saturday, 19th November 2022, of gas pipeline explosion outside St. Petersburg, Russia.

“Firefighters and rescuers extinguish a fire caused by a gas pipeline depressurization between Berngardovka and Kovalevo,” Leningrad Region governor Alexander Drozdenko said, adding, “There is no threat to the population and the spread of fire to residential areas.”

Meanwhile, the exact reason for this explosion has not been confirmed as of now. The governor confirms cause is being investigated.

Moreover, no suggestion of sabotage has been mentioned by Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations. The ministry said explosion was likely the result of “depressurization” in the pipeline.

Governor Drozdenko further confirmed emergency crew members on site allowed the gas to burn off, while they were preparing to repair the damaged pipeline.

Despite the incident, it did not pose any noticeable impact on global oil and gas prices.
