Thursday, 12th August – Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) confirmed on mobilizing team and equipment to Gaa Alif Dhaandhoo for the island’s shore protection and land reclamation project. Moreover, the contractor had confirmed on mobilizing the equipment on 10th August, Tuesday of the current week. The scope of work on the land reclamation and shore protection project involve dredging and reclamation operations spanning 25 hectares of area along with the construction of a rock-boulder revetment measuring 1,238 meters. Maldives government has spent a total of MVR3,763.4 million (MVR3.76 billion) towards Covid-19 related efforts, so far. Moreover, as per the Ministry of Finance the state had spent a total of MVR1,990.6 million (MVR1.99 billion) on health and social efforts, marking just a 0.2% increment from the week before. During the review period from the total health and social spending, 58.8% had been committed-spending. Wednesday, 11th August – MTCC reports an overall 67% progress of Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital renovation project. The contractor reports on completing the installation of lifts while walkway works are currently underway with 75% progress. The renovation project involves development of a new laboratory building at the hospital premises alongside a new ward building as well as renovation of the existing OPD area. The project total is at MVR30.3 million reportedly.

According to Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) the state earnings for the month of July 2021 observed a 6.2% decrement in comparison with the same month last year. Moreover, the total state revenue, inclusive of USD collection, stood at MVR624.07 million. State earned 21.10 million in US Dollars for the period. According to Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) businesses in major economic sectors reported contraction in activities during the second quarter of 2021. Moreover, the Maldives central bank reported noting slight improvement of business activities in wholesale and retail trade sector; as the only exception whereas all the other major sectors namely tourism, transportation, communication and construction industries all reported decline in activities. Monday, 09th August – Managing Director of Housing Development Corporation (HDC) Mr. Suhail Ahmed confirms on additional land reclamation under the Thilafushi Masterplan project. As such, as per HDC front-man the project will now entail an additional 130 hectares of land reclamation under scope of work. According to Ministry of Finance, the year-to-date update on state revenue indicate a total of MVR128.1 million collected as fines by July end.
