Saturday, 24th July – Health Protection Agency (HPA) of Maldives announced a string of easements for travelers opting for local tourism options – mainly guesthouses. According to HPA, tourists who have received full dosage of WHO-approved Covid-19 vaccination will have no further obstacles while checking in to guesthouses across local islands in Maldives, provided they have completed 14 days post administration of the second vaccine dose. Saturday, 24th July – Latest statistics of Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) reveals the air traffic movement to Velana International Airport (VIA) remains significantly low. According to the latest statistics, despite the island nation observing gradual incline of tourist influx the air traffic movement has not recovered to mirror the movement in 2019. MACL reports the international aviation movement directed to VIA declined by 23% during the first half of 2021 in comparison with the corresponding period of 2019 – the last time aviation remained normal. Thursday, 22nd July – State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has cautioned the residents of Greater Male’ region on possible electricity cuts for the upcoming two-days. Thursday, 22nd July – Fuel Supplies Maldives Pvt Ltd (FSM) have confirmed on their plans to launch a self-service petrol station in Greater Male’ region. Managing Director of FSM, Mohamed Gasam notified through an interview on RaajjeTV, Wednesday evening, that the company was currently working towards upgrading their petrol stations. Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has reported a profit-after-tax of MVR63 million observed in the second quarter of 2021. According to MTCC, the corporation had made revenues amounting to MVR423 million during the review quarter, which is a 70.6% increment from the revenue generated in the corresponding quarter of 2020. According to the utility corporation the Maldives capital experienced sudden power failure because of a technical mishap during circuit-energizing done on the Greater Male’ electrical grid. Sunday, 18th July – Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has officially inaugurated the road development project at Haa Dhaal Hanimaadhoo. During a special ceremony held on Sunday morning at the project venue, Maldives head of state was accompanied by MTCC CEO Adam Azim along with top-level state officials as well.
