    Tourist arrivals, bed-nights up by 97% and 63%

    Tourist arrivals increase by 97%, bed-nights by 63% in June 2022

    Tourist arrivals went up by 97% in June 2022, reports Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA). Bed-nights went up by 63% in the same review month as well.

    The comparisons are made against the corresponding month last year, reports MMA. In addition to this, bed-nights exceeded the corresponding month in 2019 as well.

    However, tourist arrivals for the review month were just 2% below pre-pandemic levels in 2019, during which it hit a total of 110,889.

    Operational bed capacity of the industry observed an increment of 9,258 beds in comparison to the same period last year. On the other hand, occupancy rose to 44% in June 2022 from 32% in the same month last year.

    From January to June 2022, total tourist arrivals saw an increment of 59% in annual terms. Bed-nights sprung up by 43% for the same period.

    However, tourist arrivals in annual terms was still 6% below pre-pandemic levels. Bed-nights however saw a growth by 12% against the same period in 2019. Average stay of tourists in annual terms fell from 9.0 days in 2021 to 8.1 days in 2022.
